Background of the Study
Consumer loyalty is a critical factor in the success of businesses, especially for local brands competing in a market with numerous options. In Illela LGA, Sokoto State, local brands face the challenge of building consumer loyalty amidst the proliferation of imported products. Advertising plays a pivotal role in this process, as it can shape consumer perceptions, preferences, and emotional connections with brands. According to Bello and Zubairu (2023), advertising fosters loyalty by consistently communicating a brand's values, quality, and unique offerings to consumers. However, the specific influence of advertising on consumer loyalty to local brands in Illela LGA has not been sufficiently explored. This study aims to assess how advertising influences consumer loyalty to local brands in the region, exploring the effectiveness of different advertising techniques and the role of consumer-brand relationships.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
In Illela LGA, local brands struggle to maintain consumer loyalty in the face of competition from well-established international brands. Despite various advertising campaigns, local brands often find it difficult to establish a lasting bond with consumers.
Research by Umar and Ibrahim (2024) indicates that advertising can enhance consumer loyalty, but only if the messages are tailored to the specific needs and aspirations of the local population. This study will address the gap in knowledge regarding the influence of advertising on consumer loyalty to local brands in Illela LGA, Sokoto State.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the influence of advertising on consumer loyalty to local brands in Illela LGA.

  2. To examine the role of different advertising techniques in fostering consumer loyalty to local brands in Illela LGA.

  3. To identify the factors that contribute to consumer loyalty toward local brands in Illela LGA.

This study will provide valuable insights for local businesses and advertisers in Illela LGA by highlighting how advertising can be leveraged to build consumer loyalty. The findings will inform strategies for developing more effective advertising campaigns and help local brands strengthen their market presence.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is focused on local brands in Illela LGA, Sokoto State, and examines the influence of advertising on consumer loyalty within this specific region.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

  1. Consumer Loyalty: A consumer's preference for and consistent repurchase of a brand over time due to positive experiences and emotional attachment.

  2. Advertising Techniques: The various methods and strategies used in advertising, including emotional appeals, persuasive messages, and media channels.

  3. Local Brands: Products or services that are produced and marketed within a specific region, often reflecting local culture and values.
